Full course description

One of education’s chief goals is to prepare students for the world of work.  Students with disabilities and their families, however, face a huge obstacle to employment:  Fear of losing essential public benefits like Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid.  Luckily, public benefits offer safety nets called “work incentives” that help protect benefits when people work and ensure they get ahead financially.  This course enables learners to:

·         Understand key public benefits students and their families may receive

·         Explain work incentives for these benefits

·         Estimate the impact of various earnings levels and work incentives on benefits, and encourage students and families to pursue work experience

·         Refer students and families to Benefits Planners for expert help to use work incentives

The course includes 6 modules featuring practical exercises and quizzes.  For participants whose jobs do not require professional learning hours, the course certificate will be a valuable addition to your professional portfolio and employment records.
