NDE1061: Teacher Leadership Pathway 4/4: Education Policy and Advocacy Microcredential
Self-paced
Full course description
This course is appropriate for educators who currently engage in teacher leadership related to education policy and advocacy.
Teacher leaders place importance and focus on recognizing, valuing, and including community voices in educational decisions. Teacher leaders who create and leverage community connections to improve education in their area by speaking at professional conferences or public community meetings regarding educational issues or as school representatives, writing about educational issues for community or professional publications, and sharing information about their school in other public forums can have a positive impact on students' educational experiences. Teacher leaders can also have an impact by advocating for educational policies with political leaders and by supporting and voting for education initiatives that lead to positive change and improvement. Teacher leaders who advocate for education at the school, district, state, and national levels help ensure that schools—and, most importantly, the students who attend them—are a priority for all stakeholders. This microcredential focuses on showcasing teacher leaders' advocacy regarding issues that positively impact education.
