NDE1059: Teacher Leadership Pathway 2/4: Cultural Competency Microcredential

This course is appropriate for educators who currently engage in teacher leadership activities related to cultural competency.

Culturally competent educators have the ability to understand and recognize that different beliefs and values exist in different cultures and to work with students and plan lessons with this diversity in mind. Culturally competent teacher leaders take action to ensure that students are educated in culturally safe and equitable learning environments, and they work with staff, parents, and the community to ensure that all stakeholders understand the importance of embracing diversity and recognizing and dismantling racism and oppression of any kind. Teacher leaders who exhibit cultural competency and use their skills to support their peers, leadership teams, and communities are a significant asset to their schools and school communities.This microcredential focuses on teacher leadership through embracing diversity in one’s own classroom as well as fostering cultural competence in all educators.
