This microcredential focuses on the implementation of the NEPF Teacher Professional Responsibilities Standard 5 - Student Perception. Professional Responsibilities Standard 5 illustrates the importance of student perception on determining educator effectiveness. Dr. Hattie asserts that “It is only those teachers who have the mind frame that students’ perceptions are important who make the sustained efforts needed to engage students more in learning (2012, p. 33). In fact, research shows that student perception is an important data source of measuring teacher quality and is linked to student achievement (Akram, 2019). Students should report that their teacher helps them learn, creates a safe and supportive learning environment, and cares about them as individuals and their goals and interests.
