NDE1035: NEPF Professional Responsibilities/ Educator Microcredential 4/5: PR Standard 4

This microcredential focuses on the implementation of the NEPF Teacher Professional Responsibilities Standard 4 - Family Engagement. Professional Responsibilities Standard 4 demonstrates the need for educators to develop practices that support family engagement. Family engagement should not be seen as “an add on - a bothersome, time-consuming activity done after the important business of teaching and learning; instead, family engagement is a requisite for effective teaching and school improvement and requires significant attention and investment from schools and systems” (Mapp & Bergman, 2021). Teachers must regularly facilitate two-way communication with families and include parent/guardian insights about the goals of instruction and student progress; value, respect, welcome, and encourage families to become active members of the school and views them as assets to student learning; and inform and connect families and students to opportunities and services according to their needs.
