NDE1028: NEPF Instructional Practice/ Educator Microcredential 2/5: IP Standard 2
Self-paced
Full course description
This microcredential focuses on the implementation of the NEPF Teacher Instructional Practice Standard 2 - Learning Tasks Have High Cognitive Demand for Diverse Learners. Instructional Practice Standard 2 centers around the need for teachers to design learning tasks that have high cognitive demand for diverse learners. Cognitive demand is “more than just rigor—it is that mental state a person experiences when they are so deeply engaged with a task that they use all of their mental resources and don’t notice time passing” (Klein, 2020). Teachers must design tasks that employ all students’ cognitive abilities and skills, place appropriate demands on each student, and progressively develop students’ cognitive abilities and skills. Teachers must also demonstrate their belief that all children can learn regardless of their race, perceived ability, and socioeconomic status. The intention of this microcredential is for educators to show their understanding of how educators should create learning tasks that have a high cognitive demand for diverse learners.
