NDE1017: Highly Effective Teaching Practices Pathway: Learning Environment Microcredential

Learning environments encompass not only the aesthetic properties of a classroom; they are also shaped by the attitude and demeanor of the teacher, the classroom management structure, the cultural diversity of the curriculum, and the expectations for student engagement and growth. Students thrive in environments where they feel physically and emotionally safe; where they feel welcomed and valued; where making mistakes is part of a path forward; where they understand the rules, norms, and expectations for themselves as well as the teacher; and where they are comfortable asking questions and sharing their ideas. These constructs can lead to students exploring what inspires them. When learners are inspired by a topic, by the ability to work with a group, or by choices in how they present their learning, engagement increases and deeper learning ensues. This microcredential focuses on an educator's ability to establish a safe, inspiring, and respectful learning environment and to foster a culture of embracing diversity, inclusion, and belonging for all students.
