This course is appropriate for teachers and licensed personnel who work with students grades 5 - 12 and Adult Education.
Media literacy is the ability to analyze and evaluate messages from media forms beyond text; this could include social media, images, TV, radio, and film. Media literacy is the development of literacy skills that require close analysis of media to determine what the message is, how the message is being shared, and what factors presented by the media help sway the reader to an interpretation. Media literacy skills can help students become critical thinkers and problem solvers; it can help them interpret the wide variety of messages that are aimed at them on a daily basis. This microcredential focuses on how educators implement media literacy instruction that is specific to their content or discipline to help students learn new material and deepen their understanding of previously learned content.
