Self-paced
Full course description
This course is appropriate for teachers and licensed personnel who work with students grades 5 - 12 and Adult Education.
Speaking and listening skills are essential to learning and sharing information in every discipline. In order to help students achieve academic growth, teachers must support students in learning to use the academic language of their discipline in speaking as well as writing, and they must help students understand how academic language can deepen their comprehension and skill level related to the subject. Collaborative discourse, student-led instruction, student presentations, and active listening are all helpful activities to support this skill. This microcredential focuses on how educators implement speaking and listening instruction that is specific to their content or discipline to help students learn new material and deepen their understanding of previously learned content.
